The Client

BP is one of the world’s leading integrated oil and gas companies.

The Challenge

BP awarded Dalau the contract to supply PTFE sliding pads to the new ultra-deep water off-shore floating oil rig off of the coast of Angola. Generally, plastics are very good wear materials with a low coefficient of friction, making them ideal for applications where friction is a consideration. In addition, the abrasion resistance of most plastics is high under dry running conditions. Due to the fact no lubricants are required, PTFE is often used in heavy installation constructions. Also, by adding PTFE to the free movable construction parts, (metal, rubber and so on) shrink and expansion due to temperature movements will not become an issue.

Our Solution

Our PTFE Sliding Pads formed part of the development programme based on a Floating Production Storage and Offtake (FPSO) development concept, which is intended to reduce cycle time, optimise capital and maximise operating efficiency through standardised design, fabrication and commissioning.
